Introduction to Art quilting

A brief summary of art quilting and various techniques leading into an explanation of thread painting and its applications, the notes for this are approximately one page in length.

Thread painting foliage motifs

Starting with how to select an image for your motif, with detailed explanations and photographs of the various steps in transferring an image onto stabilizer, hoop preparation, thread sketching, shading and using different stitches to produce different textures. Then working through to appliqué attachment methods including three dimensional. This lesson will show the student how to create a basic leaf, fern frond, and moss and includes tips on troubleshooting.

Fabulous fish motifs

Starting with a quick revision on image sourcing and suggestions on the use of metallic threads this lesson will teach students how to use different stitching techniques to create texture and shape. This lesson provides more information on dimensional appliqué.

Birds of a feather!

Starting with a quick revision on image sourcing and suggestions on the use of tones and shading with thread. This lesson discusses the importance of creating defining features, and how this affects the realism of the motif.

 Furry Friends!

 Starting with a quick revision on image sourcing and suggestions on the use of multiple threads and tension variation, this lesson will show the importance of eyes and faces and expands on defining features. This lesson will provide information on shading and creating texture and grain in fur
